Quick Start Guide

This section provides a step-by-step quick setup for getting Sentinel up and running fast.


Welcome to your Sentinel! Here's a look inside it

Step 1: Unbox Your Sentinel

Inside the box, you’ll find:

  • 1x Sentinel Device:

  • 2x SD Card Cable (to connect with compatible trail cameras - one is a spare)

  • 1x Antenna (based on your chosen network between Cell, LoRa, Satellite)

  • A selection of 3D printed SD card shims (only necessary if you're not using a Reconyx camera)

You may also have:

  • 1x Modem (for Sentinel updates over Wifi)

  • 1x Battery charger

  • Batteries for your Sentinel.

    • if you have purched them separately, it is important they are 18650 unprotected button tops.

Sentinel can take anywhere from 2-7 batteries

Step 2: Check your Sentinel

  • The MicroSD card is inserted inside

  • Batteries are secured with a strap

  • No internal cables are loose

Step 3: Connect to Your Camera Trap

  1. Ensure your camera trap is compatible (see a working list in "Supported Cameras").

  2. Set your camera traps’ settings

    1. Date/Time (this is very important)

    2. Camera Name

    3. Trigger Settings (set to motion activated; don't use timelapse)

    4. Photo Mode (not video)

    5. If you are using a Reconyx camera - enable Loop Record with custom Sentinel firmware

  3. Connect the SD Cable Adapter from Sentinel to your camera’s SD card slot.

  4. Turn on the camera

    1. For Reconyx cameras, make sure it’s set to Loop Record Mode (Reconyx HyperFire 2 cameras will need to first install the custom Sentinel firmware). More information HERE.

Step 3: Power On Your Sentinel

  1. Flip the on/off switch inside the Sentinel and you'll start to see LEDs flashing.
