# Software Updates & Maintenance

### Updating Sentinel Firmware

Two methods to update Sentinel software:

1. WiFi Update: Sentinels need to be connected to WiFi to receive software updates. This can include major software updates but also updates to models or cycle times. Sentinels can be connected to WiFi via:

   1. [A modem](/sentinel-docs-english/sentinel-dashboard-and-data-management/software-updates-and-maintenance/connect-sentinel-to-local-wifi-via-config-file-on-microsd.md) (or mini-router)
   2. [A config File on the microSD](/sentinel-docs-english/sentinel-dashboard-and-data-management/software-updates-and-maintenance/connect-sentinel-to-local-wifi-via-modem.md)

2. USB Update: For remote locations, update manually using a USB drive.
