Sentinel Device Setup

Getting your Sentinel up and running

Setting up a Sentinel

Most often, everything will be delivered to you with all the necessary models and settings pre-loaded, so all you have to do is plug it in, and turn it on.

Pre-Field Setup

This process can happen a few days or seconds before deployment.

This limits the time the electronics are directly exposed to the environment in the field (rain, humidity, and dust aren't great).

  1. Check you have everything for each Sentinel.

    • Sentinel

    • Appropriate Antenna cellular or satellite)

    • Antenna Mount (for satellite only)

    • SD-USB Cable

    • Straps (2x if using the Sentinel strap attachment bracket)

    • 2x fully charged batteries (5x extra if using the extra battery pack)

  2. Open sentinel box

  3. Check batteries are fully charged with provided battery voltage checker (4.1-4.2V). Please don't use partially charged batteries with fully charged batteries; this can damage the Sentinel and the batteries.

  4. Place and strap fully-charged batteries in place (note direction)

  5. Turn on the switch. You should see the following light sequence.

  6. Turn off the switch, check batteries and wires are secure, and close the box.

Field Setup

  1. Mount the antenna, check it is secure, and point towards the sky.

  2. Plug the USB-SD cable into the camera.

  3. Check the camera can see the SD card (this differs between camera manufacturers)

  4. (If you are using the top-mount bracket) Screw the camera into the sentinel

  5. Attach the Sentinel and Camera to a tree (or however you are mounting the device) via the straps.

Troubleshooting

  • Nothing here yet. We will fill in as we hear about problems

Administration Mode

  1. Connect to the router network.

  2. Go to 192.168.8.0 on a browser.

  3. Set the device up as a repeater creating a network with

    • SSID: sentinel-net

    • PW: **** (ask CXL)

  4. Turn on the device.

This allows the Sentinel to connect to WiFi and for CXL engineers to debug devices remotely. Note this requires extra hardware (specifically a configured ), which you may not have.
