# Updating Sentinel over WiFi

### Setting up the modem

For this you need a working WiFi connection (or Hotspot) without a secondary verification e.g. hotel Wifi with a login page

<figure><img src="/files/sGr9r8Puy3SlnK6Nkbg2" alt=""><figcaption><p>Sentinel Modem</p></figcaption></figure>

{% hint style="info" %}
This process repeats your WiFi to a network that Sentinel knows (called sentinel-net). This allows the Sentinels to always look for the same network wherever they are
{% endhint %}

* Plug-in provided modem via micro USB cable
* Connect to sentinel-net (PW: endextinction)
* Open the browser and navigate to 192.168.8.1 (PW: endextinction)

<figure><img src="/files/2PT5SOyK4R8xmBxxft6m" alt=""><figcaption><p>This should pop up when you navigate to 192.168.8.1 on sentinel-net for the first time</p></figcaption></figure>

* Click the Scan button, and connect to your WiFi network

* Check that you are both connected to sentinel-net network and that a webpage loads

You will only have to do this process once.

* Verify that the Sentinel is connected to Sentinel-net (during boot-up the Sentinel should show a stable blue light at some point)

<figure><img src="/files/Bf5h4UtzlVNbHYZrUbKn" alt=""><figcaption><p>Sentinel name (e.g. jumping-nexus) should pop up in Clients</p></figcaption></figure>

Now you know that your Sentinel is connected to your local WiFi via sentinel-net. You can now proceed to [update your device](/sentinel-multi-language/in-the-field/updating-sentinel-over-wifi/update-your-sentinel-over-wifi.md).

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://conservation-x-labs-1.gitbook.io/sentinel-multi-language/in-the-field/updating-sentinel-over-wifi.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
